Any Human Heart

Have you seen Any Human Heart? It is amazing.

I have found that my interest in television has waned lately. Sure its entertaining to watch Jersey Shore and see the random crap on cable. But having not had cable this past year has been awesome. I can honestly say I don't miss it. I can also honestly say that I read more books.

I have had the basic channels though, PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, spanish language (what? I don't speak spanish but that has never made the game shows less interesting). I've found myself gravitating more and more to PBS in a way that my 15 year old self did not imagine would happen until I was at least 35. (I'm 24.)

But PBS has some really excellent programing. Like the odd one I watched on the learning and emotional development difficulties of children adopted from eastern european orphanages. Or the music programs. But Masterpiece Theater the past few months has been phenomenally good. First Downton Abbey. (Are you excited for the second season? I am.) And now Any Human Heart.

I like that the main character in Any Human Heart, Logan Mountstuart, is a little bit unlikeable. A little flighty, no steady job, sleeping with wives friends and cheating on his spouses. It makes him more real, and some of the adventures more believable.

Is it possible that people who lead ridiculously interesting lives are a little unlikeable because of the decisions they make that also make them interesting?
